Fellow Shooters - August 2013

Fellow Shooters,

The National Rifle & Pistol Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio, have just wrapped up, and we're proud, once again, to have attended this summer. A steady stream of shooting enthusiasts made their way through the Sinclair Store on Commercial Row. A big thanks and congratulations to all the competitors, Range Safety Officers, CMP/NRA staff, and most importantly, our customers and suppliers for their support in making this year's matches our most successful ever. We're already making preparations for attending again in 2014.

Not only did we get to meet lots of our customers and fellow shooting enthusiasts, we also got to see some first-rate competition. Ryan Vader Popper won the John C. Garand match with a score of 292-11X. The John C. Garand match is shot using as-issued M1 Garands at 200 yards.

Cody Shields took the C. Porter Trophy - a 1,000-yard service rifle match - in a shoot-off. Michelle Gallagher won the Leech Cup - another 1,000-yard match - beating Tyrel Cooper by a single X in a shoot-off. Tyrel Cooper managed to redeem himself quite nicely, however, as he won the Tompkins Trophy for high aggregate individual in Long Range High Power. His score of 1243 over four grueling 1,000-yard matches was good enough to only tie fellow AMU teammate Brandon Green, and Cooper had to grind out the win by X count, 71 to 64.

Camp Perry is more than just "The World Series of Shooting Sports". It's also a great place to meet like-minded people, make friends, and reconnect with old friends.

One of the best ways to get to know other shooters at the National Matches is to frequent one of the local eating establishments, such as Mr. Ed's Bar & Grille. The top-shooting Tompkins-Gallagher family is often found in this place and gave us the recommendation - great food! The chicken wraps are particularly good. Another popular dinner spot in the area is Casas Las Palmas, especially with the Palma shooters! This place is standing room only EVERY night of the week and rightfully so. Always my vote for the first night in Port Clinton!

Once Camp Perry came to an end, it was time to set our sights out west for the 2013 F-Class Nationals at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico, which were immediately followed by the F-Class World Championships at the same range. In fact, the F-Class Nationals are finishing as I write this letter! Still, there is news to report. Team Sinclair member Derek Rodgers won the individual F-Class Nationals in F-T/R division. Derek is the only person to ever win both F-T/R and F-Open (2010) at the F-Class Nationals. Congratulations Derek! You and your Sinclair teammates are great ambassadors for the sport and for our organization as well.

Derek proudly displays his trophy for winning the F-T/R Division at the F-Class Nationals.

You may have spoken on the phone with Corey Schwanz and Phil Hoham - two of our Sinclair Reloading Techs. They just attended the AR-15.com Rockcastle Pro-Am 3-Gun Championship, held at the Rockcastle Shooting Center in Park City, Kentucky. One of the most popular 3-Gun matches in the country, Rockcastle is two and a half days of non-stop competition and a fantastic opportunity for pro and amateur 3-gun shooters to meet and compete. Our guy Corey had to compete in the Pro division this year because he won the Amateur class last year! Be sure to ask how they did at the match, the next time you give us a call.

As exciting as all the high-level competitive shooting has been, I'm even more excited to say that we'll have the new Sinclair 2013-B Catalog out in September. We packed it with hundreds of new products for you! Some of the hottest items right now, all in this catalog, are Barnes Varmin-A-tor Bullets, Nightforce 15-55x52mm Competition Riflescopes, Forster Datum Dial Ammunition Measuring System, and the Kestrel 4500NV Horus Weather Meter.

We're especially excited about our new Sinclair Heavy Varmint Shooting Rest. We've been waiting on these for a long, long time - at least it feels that way! We took the best features from our old Gen II Benchrest, and then added a bunch of upgrades from our high-end Competition Rest. All built here in the USA, too. You have 8 different variations of the Sinclair Heavy Varmint Shooting Rest to choose from, making it the best and most versatile rest available!

We're also pleased to offer a some new books in the catalog, including Accuracy and Precision For Long Range Shooting by good friend Bryan Litz. He really is a rocket scientist - spent 6 years in the Air Force working on air-to-air missile design, modeling and simulation - so he does know what he's talking about. And Nancy Tompkins' Prone & Long Range Rifle Shooting. Nancy is a legendary competitor, and this long-awaited Second Edition of her book has a wealth of practical information on long-range shooting.

Please remember that demand remains very high for almost all of our products, and sometimes items do go out of stock temporarily, despite our best efforts to maintain inventory levels. But also remember that Sinclair International takes backorders on out-of-stock items and sometimes pre-orders on new items we pick up. Either way, a backorder or a pre-order guarantees your spot in line, even for the most popular products. We always strive to give you the best technical service and our 100% lifetime product guarantee on everything we sell.

On a personal note, I'm trying to get in as much shooting as I can before the cold sets in. I got a good dose of shotgunning at the Shooting Industry Masters in Cody, Wyoming, last month, and it really got me "pumped". It got me so pumped that I bought another Remington 870, and I'm accessorizing it so that any new shooters who come to the range with me will have a trap gun to use. New shooters are vitally important to our sport. Be sure to take a new shooter to the range with you!

Along with the shotgun, I got some shells, for our fall trap league that starts soon. That reminds me, I need to ask Santa to bring me a new MEC Shotshell Reloader. Rifle powder, pistol magazines, and range equipment always seem to gobble up my discretionary funds, not leaving a penny for shotshell reloading!

Until next month...shoot straight and take care.

All the best,
Geoff Esterline
